Depression - Help and support Ideas....
Sorry gank, has fuck all to do with West Ham...

Anyway, has anyone here ever struggled with it? I've suffered pretty badly over the last year or so, and still coming to terms with it and has had a major impact on my life and was trying to think of some ideas to help promote recognition and support to those that have suffered and are suffering some of which are embarrassed or scared to get help like I was at the start.

Long story short mine started pretty much to the day last year, it got to the point I isolated myself from my family friends and didn't want any contact with the outside world and were days where I literally didn't get out of bed, it came as a massive shock to me as I'd just been married, working in a decent job earning decent money and on the face of it not had any reason to be depressed. I was always ignorant to people with it, I worked with someone who had it and always thought it was used as an excuse or people because were lazy - but having gone through it it's literally hell.

There's still a massive taboo when it comes to depression, my thoughts are that because it's a mental illness and everyone has different forms or reasons to be depressed as well as because people can't physically see it that there's a lot of ignorance towards the subject.

Anyway, the reason for this thread was to get some ideas of how I could help promote an understanding of depression in the form of some sort of event and wanted the bright sparks of WHO to hopefully give me some ideas.

No doubt there'll be a few cuntish comments in my direction so have a rather large tin hat at the ready.

Ultimately you have to find out what makes you unhappy, easier said than done.

In the meantime exercise & keeping yourself busy, having a creative outlet, layoff booze and drugs all help.

Sounds like a cry for gay freedom to me though...YOURS!

Bolt

Very well written. You're right that there's still a taboo about it, and it takes some courage to write what you have. Particularly in the WHO zoo.

Respect.

Just married, and then depressed?

It's not uncommon, bolty.

My advice is to kill the wife and support Barcelona.

You'll feel much better for it.

I've lived with it as long as I can remember. Diet is a big part of it. So if your diet changed when you got married, think about what changed.

Re: Depression - Help and support Ideas....
Your mum, I personally at the time had nothing to be depressed about - but it just hit me like a fucking train wreck.

I'm more comfortable with it now, and doing things to help. However in the early stages drink and drugs were my out and got quite bad at times.I'm over that stage and just taking day by day.

But, this wasnt so much as me "coming out", I want to help others that like me were embarrassed and scared to seek help. So any ideas would be appreciated.

It's the women's diet that changes with marriage, as they all give up man-sausage, which is very depressing indeed.

Timely bolty

My son called me today, been suffering massively with this for 3 weeks now, been off work sick but couldn't tell his g/f. so just drove off and sat in his car all day.

Choked me up listening to him break down on the phone to me, so anything that anyone can offer me to help him would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Re: Depression - Help and support Ideas....
bolty, well done for admitting you have a problem. first thing is to rule out thingscthat might be getting you down like boozing, drugs or a bad diet. im not sure if i've had depression but i've not been the same since my old man died. should really have spoken to a counsellor about it as there is so much anger underneath the surface. bolt, try and talk to someone when you're down, your family would rather you let them know than suffer in silence
